Pics: Riot at Benson Idahosa Uni. after student dies at school Clinic

Physically exhausted...so I am going to let a Benson Idahosa student explain what happened. Read below...
I am a student of Benson Idahosa university, a private university, situated in Benin city. Today, a student of the school Justin (pictured left), a 200l of International Studies and Diplomacy died at the school annex medical facility. Three days ago, the deceased who was the only son of a single mother was ill and went to the school clinic for medication, he was immediately admitted in the school clinic without being examined and drips were admitted on him for three days. Justin (the deceased) was ignored on the sick bed with drips on him. It was late this morning that the negligent nurses noticed the boy's lifeless body but it was too late as his pcv had dropped to 13. He was rushed to the school apex hospital (Faith Mediplex, which is also owned by the school's president, FEB Idahosa)
This evening, the students gathered at the clinic and revolted as the death of Justin was sudden and was caused by the negligence of the 'very rude' nurses, the riot which was as a result of the death was also propagated by other vexations such as lack of water, electricity amongst other things.
The school authorities are now threatening the students with increment in fees and expulsion of the students.
Attached to this mail are pictures from the scene. The windows were smashed and the door broken down coupled with other forms of violence. May the soul of the deceased rest in peace

Heat wave in India kills over 500 people

Soaring temperatures have gripped parts of southern and northern India in an extreme heat wave which has killed more than 500 people and looks set to continue this week, officials said on Monday.

The hottest place in India was Allahabad, a city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, which saw mercury rise to 47.7 degrees Celsius (117.8 Fahrenheit) on Sunday, while the capital Delhi recorded a high of 43.5C (110.3F).

Most of the 539 recorded deaths have been of construction workers, the elderly or the homeless in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, said officials, but some deaths have also occurred in Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red warning to affected regions saying that the heat wave conditions are likely to continue over coming days.
Director of Andhra Pradesh's Disaster Management Department K. Dhananjaya Reddy said 325 people had died of sunstroke or dehydration in the state in the last three days.

"We are advising people not to go to work between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.," said Reddy. "We have also opened centers in different places specially in urban areas for the distribution of water and butter milk."
The government has canceled the leave of all doctors as hospitals were being flooded with cases of heat-stroke, he said, adding that compensation of 100,000 rupees ($1,575) will be given to families of people who had died.

While in the neighboring state of Telangana, where 204 people have died, officials have advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of fluids and wear loose clothing.

Taxi drivers in Kolkata - capital of West Bengal state where four deaths have been reported - refused to work between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. after two cabbies died in their cars last week.

Heartbreaking pics capture moment teen bride was forced to marry a polygamous police chief after 'he threatened her with kidnap'

Isn't this the saddest bride you have ever seen? The 17 year old was forced to marry a 47 year old Chechen warlord who is married and has children older than her after he threatened her with kidnap. Read the sad story below from Mail Online
Her resplendent white dress says it's her wedding day, but the sadness etched on her face does not. For this teenage bride has been forced to marry an ally of Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov after apparently being threatened with kidnap if she did not comply. Kheda Goilabiyeva, 17, looked despondent and at one point wept during the ceremony in the Chechen capital Grozny as the fearsome Kadyrov watched on from the crowd.
She was asked three times whether she wanted to marry 47-year-old police chief Nazhud Guchigov – who already has another wife – before finally and reluctantly responding yes.

The marriage has provoked outrage in Russia, fuelled by Moscow's child rights commissioner, Pavel Astakhov, who defended the wedding by saying that Caucasian women 'are all shrivelled with wrinkles by the age of 27'. He later apologised for his comments.
In response to the remarks, young women online have started posting selfies on Instagram with the hashtag #WrinkledWoman in which they scrunch up their faces to simulate the appearance of wrinkles. Many of the posts include sarcastic greetings to Astakhov.

Kadyrov, who has ruled Chechnya with an iron fist since being installed by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2007, was said to have given his personal blessing for the marriage in apparent violation of Russian laws against polygamy.
The procession then carried on to a restaurant, where Kadyrov was present and celebrated with traditional dances.
Guchigov reportedly threatened to kidnap the teen and warned of 'unpleasant consequences' if she or her parents did not consent to marriage, according to Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
Several of those in attendance also said that they disapproved, owing to the difference in age between the two.
'I would have killed my daughter before letting her marry like that,' one woman said on condition of anonymity. 'I am against early marriages.'
Announced in late April, the wedding led to an outcry in Russia, with several news reports alleging that the teenager had been forced into the marriage.
Kremlin human rights commissioner Ella Pamfilova had denounced the marriage as medieval and said she hoped that it would not take place. She called for sanctions if it were carried out.

Kadyrov however said on his Instagram account that 'these publications are only lies! Love has no age'.
Russia's child rights commissioner, Pavel Astakhov, said that the wedding did not violate laws on the minimum age for marriage, but he has not responded to questions regarding polygamy.
Kadyrov, 38, has helped the Kremlin battle an Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus.
But the former rebel – accused by human rights groups of overseeing torture, extrajudicial executions and corruption – has shown an increased readiness in recent months to challenge Putin's authority.

Yay! Senate passes bill to criminalize female genital mutilation

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, passed Violence against Persons (Prohibition) Bill which seeks to prohibit female circumcision or genital mutilation, forceful ejection from home and harmful widowhood practices. The bill also prohibits abandonment of spouse, children and other dependents without sustenance, battery and harmful traditional practices.

The Bill was sponsored by the Leader of the Senate, Victor Ndoma-Egba. It is also intended to eliminate violence in private and public life and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims of violence, and punishment of offenders.

The bill equally prohibits economic abuse, forced isolation and separation from family and friends, substance attack, depriving persons of their liberty, incest, indecent exposure, among others.

In his remarks, Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided at the session, said that the passage of the bill would provide adequate protection for the vulnerable in the society and punish those who take advantage of them.

He commended the senators and other stakeholders for their efforts in ensuring that the bill was passed, adding that it was a good step in the fight against violence in the society.

“The primary responsibility of government is to protect lives and property and as a responsible arm of government, our primary responsibility is to enact laws that will not only protect our people, but also protect their property.

“Today, we have discharged one of our responsibilities to the vulnerable in terms of violence. Congratulations for this achievement,’’ he said.

Ex-militant, Boyloaf describes Jonathan as a disappointment, says he will not welcome him back when he leaves office

Former Niger Delta militant Ebikabowei Victor Benakak aka Gen. Boyloaf has described President Jonathan as a disappointment to him and other Niger Deltans. In an interview with Premium Times, Boyloaf said Jonathan did not build any remarkable infrastructure in the Niger Delta, a region where he is from. He said he will not welcome President Jonathan to the region when he leaves office;
"To me, as a matter of fact Jonathan disappointed us. That is my own opinion. He might be good to some people. There is nothing to tell if you get to my own state. We didn’t benefit. People like us did not benefit from his government. His government focused on one side. The Bayelsans did not benefit. It is only the Arugbos – that is Ondo State and Delta State – that benefited from his government. So, someone like me will not welcome him. I will not welcome him at all. The struggle continues." he said
PT: Do you think the South West and the Northern part of Nigeria were marginalized under the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan?
Boyloaf: Did people from the South-South benefit? If you come to Bayelsa State, can you count how many people benefited? That is the president’s state. When the APC was going for campaigns, they made a statement that there is a town that they didn’t have light, and people said Otuoke. Then (Gov. Chibuike) Amaechi said “I didn’t mention name”. But can you imagine that in that place there is no road? You see, what Jonathan did was that he favoured the North and West. Go to the Niger Delta and see. He favoured the North. He did Almajiri. Then go to the West you will see the railway, you will see all what he’s doing there. What is happening in Niger Delta? Nothing! It is better to go there and see things for yourself. Jonathan did not do anything for his people, for his region.
PT: Maybe he planned to do that in his second term in the office?
Boyloaf: I don’t believe in that. Charity begins at home. Jonathan was supposed to have started from his area because anything can happen the next day like what has happened now. So, what are you telling me? What about (late President Umaru) Yar’Adua? He did the airport in Katsina. He started from his own area. See, that is what Jonathan was supposed to do to. I have that belief right from time because they never wanted a Niger Delta person to be in government. We know that one because they will seal a lot of deals. I am a mariner. I know what is going on at the sea.  For instance, like we are talking about subsidy, we know the people that do deals.

Bollywood star Salman Khan sentenced to five years in jail for 2012 hit-and-run

Popular Bollywood star Salman Khan was today sentenced to five years in prison for killing a homeless man in a hit-and-run in Mumbai in 2002. He hit 5 homeless people, killing one and injuring 3 of them. Prosecutors said he was drunk at the time of the crash and had just left a bar.

His driver claimed in court last month that he had been the one behind the wheels and that the accident occurred after a tyre burst but a judge in Mumbai court today ruled that Salman was the one driving and not his driver after someone in his security team contradicted his driver's claims. Salman was sentenced him to five years in prison and was immediately taken into custody.

His family immediately went to a Mumbai high court to seek bail. Salman's lawyers said they plan to appeal the sentence. Meaning that the case will be in court for years.

The prosecution is now set to move a perjury application against Salman Khan's driver for giving false testimony in court.

Salman Khan had left the shooting of a movie midway to attend the court hearing. The movie will have to be put on hold since he's in custody. The 49year old actor who has featured in over 80 Indian movies is said to be worth about $40million.
